This forum, free to TIOB members, is designed specifically for boarding houseparents. This space is dedicated to discussing various aspects of the boarding role, with a particular focus on balancing work responsibilities with family life, overcoming common challenges, and sharing supportive advice among peers. This is an opportunity to connect with likeminded boarding professionals who truly understand the role. Together, we’ll explore the unique demands of boarding work, provide insights into managing the complexities, and offer a supportive environment for you to air your thoughts, share strategies, and find camaraderie among colleagues.

Ally Onions
Ally Onions is currently the Head of Safeguarding and Mental Health at St George’s School Windsor Castle. With her husband Jonny, they run the boarding house, which includes looking after the choristers who sing in St George’s Chapel. Ally has worked in boarding education for over 20 years. She recently completed an MA in Boarding Education, looking at resilience and prep boarders. Ally is a trained Mental Health First Aider and Instructor Member, and is currently rolling out training to staff and parents.
