This forum, free to TIOB members looks at the crucial aspect of integration and belonging within a boarding house. Research has shown that a feeling of belonging is crucial to support young people’s self-esteem and mental health. This forum will look at some strategies to enable this within boarding houses and will enable those on the call to share good practice and ideas.

Tom is a Member of the Institute of Boarding (MTIOB) and a BSA Level 4 Boarding Practitioner. He studied French and Spanish at Aston University and L’Institut d’Etudes Politiques, Lille, France. Having taught English at St George’s College in Buenos Aires, he returned to the UK to take up a boarding post at Old Swinford Hospital School where he spent three years. He then moved on to become a Housemaster at Elmhurst Ballet School in Birmingham. He joined Steyning Grammar School in April 2014 as Deputy Director of Boarding, taking over as Director of Boarding (AHT) two years later. He is a member of the West Sussex DSL Executive and Diocese of Chichester Racial Justice Committee.
