he School is recruiting a Resident Matron to join the Boarding Pastoral team from September 2023.

Reporting to the Head of Boarding and working alongside a Houseparent, Assistant Head of House and Boarding Tutors, this key role will support the running of a Senior Girls Boarding House of approximately 50 students. Wellington School has 5 Boarding Houses, two Girls and Three Boys Houses, each with their own Matron.

As part of a House team, the Resident Matron helps provide pastoral, social, moral and academic support for the pupils and maintains the rules and ethos of the House. The Matron helps create a warm and welcoming environment for both pupils, their families and other visitors and acts towards pupils as a reasonable parent would, following the principles of ā€˜in loco parentisā€™.

Matrons play an important role in building strong professional relationships with pupils, maintaining discipline and respect, alongside listening and guiding pupils where necessary. They encourage pupils and celebrate their achievements.

Matrons are also involved in ensuring the smooth running of domestic arrangements within the boarding house and promoting tidiness and smart uniforms.

Suitable applicants will enjoy working with young people, have excellent communication and care skills and ideally have previous experience in a similar role, although training will be provided
