Situated on the beautiful Moray Coast in the North of Scotland, Gordonstoun is widely recognised as the world leader in character education. We have a co-educational community of over 500 students aged from 6-18, who are predominantly full boarding and are drawn from over 40 countries.
Our uniquely broad curriculum provides challenge in the classroom, at sea and in the mountains, on the stage and on the sports fields and enables students to discover the truth in our motto – Plus Est En Vous – there is more in you.
Gordonstoun are seeking to appoint an inspirational, ambitious and dynamic person who shares our vision of pastoral care in a busy full boarding school, and who will seize an exciting opportunity to work at Gordonstoun. The successful candidate will lead a highly successful boarding House for approximately 65 students (13-18). The successful candidate must have strong pastoral instincts and have an excellent track record in an educational setting. As Gordonstoun is a full boarding school, we are in full operation seven days per week including evenings during term time. Pastoral, curricular, cultural and sports activities take place outside normal day-school hours. All staff are expected to make a full contribution. The Houseparent (HP) is the Head of the Pastoral Team of Staff in their boarding house. As such, they carry responsibility for the pastoral life of the house and its development. This post has a standard tenure of a minimum of 5 years in the house. This may be extended by mutual consent in two-year blocks. This post may particularly suit a candidate who has career interests and ambitions to move into a pastoral role in senior management.
Gordonstoun has its own generous salary scale and benefits package. The successful candidate will be provided with spacious accommodation attached to the boarding house.
The HP will provide a family atmosphere for the students and give them the kind of help, encouragement and adult contact that a young person would receive in a good home.
The HP will promote the ethos of the School in the House context; to provide moral education in line with the standard and expectations of the school community; to implement school policy within the House as detailed within the Gordonstoun Charter, Code of Conduct, the Boarding Handbook, Wellbeing and Child Protection Policy and as directed by the Care Inspectorate.
The HP will take an overview of each students’ individual programme for the term, and will encourage a positive and balanced involvement by students in the varied programme of activities (academic, cultural, creative, physical) offered by the School.
